The Northern Salsa Band was founded in 2012 by eleven outstanding musicians at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester. They are committed to delivering the dynamic and exciting music of modern salsa and timba, Nuyorican mambo, authentic cha cha cha, son, guaracha, boleros and Latin jazz. The rhythm section includes five percussionists/coro, double bass and keys which is led by bandleader, Phil. This supports the virtuosic frontline of trumpet, saxophone and trombone as well as the talented vocalist, Caroline.
With mentoring by salsa legend Birger Sulsbruck (leader of salsa groups 'Salsa Na 'Ma' and 'Coco Son'), they have also studied under and performed with the percussionists Chris Manis and Dave Hassell from the Manchester-based band 'Apitos'. They have already had considerable success headlining at Band on The Wall (Manchester), performing in the prestigious annual RNCM Day of Percussion and featuring at the 2013 Parklife Weekender Festival.
